Crazy Penguin Catapult is the first in a series of two games from the people at the Digital Chocolate Company.   It is a well made geometry game similar to Angry Birds. Now it is not that often that I find a game that can measure up to the benchmark of Angry Birds but this game is the exception. With excellent game play and graphics, this game will have you hooked in not time. With lots of levels to play it is well worth their cheap asking price.

Digital Chocolate has come up with a number of pretty fun games including the likes of Zombie Mob Defense and 3D Mini Golf Challenge but Crazy Penguin Catapult is one of the better games that they have come up with.  One of the really cool features about the game is that each level consists of two different mini-games.  In the first part of the game you must be able to catapult your penguins through a narrow opening.  Each penguin that you successfully launch will be included in your arsenal for the next round.

The second part of each level pits you up against the lowly polar bears that are incased in ice on several different levels. Your job is to direct your penguins to take out the polar bears who are located on different levels, and on many instances, are protected by blocks of ice. If you are able to take out all or most of the bears on the level you will move on to the next level. If you take out all of the polar bears you will acquire a ranking of 3 stars.

One of the best parts about the game are the power ups and special abilities that you acquire over time. You can choose between flaming penguins, ninja penguins as well as special ice breaker abilities and other useful power ups. Your ultimate goal is to free the captured penguin at the end of each level and there are a lot of levels, including bonus rounds to keep challenged for hours.

For anyone who enjoys playing Angry Birds this just might be the game that you have been looking for. The lawsuit says that these firms have sold mobile apps on the Internet that were installed on various smartphones and then took the information from places like address books. The names that have been mentioned in the lawsuit are some of the bigger ones in the industry as well like Apple, Twitter and even Facebook.

The legal action is looking to have all the personal data that was taken destroyed and a permanent injunction against further collections of this kind. Path, the social networking site, has already issued an apology for its part in collecting this data. The government has also been involved earlier this month when U.S. Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) called on the Federal Trade commission to look into allegations that some iOS and Android mobile apps had actually been uploading photos and such without any consent.

Most of the other bigger companies that were involved said they would not comment on the situation as it represents an ongoing investigation.

Now it seems there’s more to it than that and the stuff that’s been going on behind the scenes is making headlines today. Forbes online version is reporting that two of the giants as far as mobile apps are concerned are on their way to an audience in front of New York Senator Charles Schumer to discuss privacy issues. With this kind of headwind blowing in the face of developers, it seems logical to assume that the people who make the apps that Google and Apple buy might be facing some new controls in the not too distant future.

Consider what’s going on in the Chinese market where the 25 billionth app was recently downloaded from the itunes store and the possibility that Andriod apps could overtake them by mid year.

But now to the app that’s started all the fuss. The Path journaling app has been accused of uploading all contents of its users address books onto its servers without consent. It would seem that this could be the spark that paves the way for more governmental controls.

“Parents generally cannot determine, before downloading an app, whether the app poses risks related to the collection, use, and sharing of their children’s personal information,” said the report, according to the Huffington Post.

The market has increased from 600 apps available in 2008 to nearly 900,000 apps that can be found in Apple’s App store and Google’s Android Market today. There have been some questions swirling around these recently up in the frozen North.

Now of course a few that have come out recently have every thing to do with the Oscars. It’s all part of a new effort on the part of the powers that be to get a younger audience online with one of the older more traditional events in sporting history.

Both apps stores for iTunes and the Android market will have Super Bowl XLVI Guide app which will offer among other things a 3D rendering of the area surrounding the Lucas Oil Stadium as well as other 3D renderings of the inside of the stadium.

Still there might be at least one instance where it will be better to view the online version than actually go for the mobile app. The 268-page Super Bowl XLVI game program is actually available as a mobile app but the size of the file itself at a whopping 400MB means it might be better to fire up your laptop at least in that one instance.

The Super Bowl XLVI Commemorative tablet app is another one of the applications that will be available to heighten your excitement over the big game. As well as a section that will have breakdowns of key statistics and plays, this app will have a section on Super Bowl history for the diehard fan.
